Travelling to the Öko-Institut’s Freiburg Head Office by Public Transport

If travelling by rail, take the "Stadtbahn" train, line 3 from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) towards “Vauban”. All lines run in this direction. After about 15 minutes, you will reach the stop named " Paula-Modersohn-Platz ". Alight here, cross Merzhauser Straße and walk for about 200 m in the opposite direction to that taken by the bus you were on. The Institute`s offices are located at number 173 Merzhauser Straße, in the front end of the "Sonnenschiff" building
Travelling to the Institute`s Freiburg Office by Car

If travelling by car, take the A5 and leave the motorway at the Freiburg-Mitte exit. Take the B31a road towards Freiburg city centre (Stadtmitte). Leave the B31a at the Hauptbahnhof exit and keep to the left, following the signs for Merzhausen. Immediately after crossing Basler Straße, you will be on Merzhauser Straße. Follow this road for about 2 km. The Institute`s offices are located at number 173 Merzhauser Straße, in the front end of the "Sonnenschiff" building.

Travelling to the Öko-Institut’s Darmstadt office by car

From the north or south (A5 from Frankfurt / Basel, Heidelberg, Stuttgart) (A67 from Mannheim / Wiesbaden): take the Darmstadt exit at the Darmstädter Kreuz intersection and follow the signs for the city centre (“Innenstadt”) on the B26 (Rheinstraße). Go straight ahead at two major traffic-light controlled junctions and at the third (Hindenburgstraße) do a U-turn. Return 200 metres along Rheinstraße towards the motorway and opposite the Berliner Allee tram stop turn right into the car park. Parking costs 2 euros. For free parking – available after 10 a.m. – continue to the next entrance on the right. The Öko-Institut office is on the 5th floor of the first office building complex. 

Travelling to the Öko-Institut’s Darmstadt office by train

If travelling by train, alight at Darmstadt main station (Hauptbahnhof); the Institute is about five minutes’ walk from here. Leave the station through the eastern entrance and go straight ahead along Mornewegstraße (past the Cinemaxx cinema). After approx. 150 metres turn right into a cul-de-sac following signs to Medi-Sport. Continue along the cul-de-sac and turn left at the third building entrance. The Öko-Institut office is on the 5th floor of the last office building complex before the car park (no. 95).

Travelling to the Öko-Institut’s Berlin office by public transport

Travelling by S-Bahn (fast local train), alight at Friedrichstraße. All S-Bahn trains stop here. From here take the U6 subway one stop to Oranienburger Tor. Then walk northwards along Friedrichstraße; where it turns into Chausseestraße, turn right into Torstraße. The first road on the left is Novalisstraße, and number 10 is half-way along on the left-hand side.

Alternatively: Take the S-Bahn line 1, 2 or 25 to Nordbahnhof. From the station turn right and walk along Eichendorffstraße. This leads into Novalisstraße. Number 10 is on the right-hand side.

Bus route 240

  • From the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) travel in the direction of Storkower Straße as far as Torstraße/U Oranienburger Tor
  • Walk along Torstraße and turn left into Novalisstraße
    Number 10 is on the left.

Bus route 245

  • From the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) travel in the direction of Nordbahnhof as far as U Zinnowitzer Straße
  • Walk along Invalidenstraße to Eichendorffstraße, which turns into Novalisstraße
  • Number 10 is on the right.
